No matter if the goal was always to be invisible or not there are subtle and sometimes not so subtle imperfections that make this stuff special. The feeling it creates is unique and unforgettable. Sooner or later movie makers will realize what has been lost, and I hope I'm around to see it.

I recently thought I would/could embrace 3d and photo manipulation but I just can't do it. Even having the technical ability, there is no fun in it for me, and it's a lot less elegant. Time for me to close the digital chapter for this still, fairly young lad.

Back to my brushes.

-AAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-40038420169258639462016-11-23T20:47:04.791+13:002016-11-23T20:47:04.791+13:00Great post, Pete!
Thanks for posting the "Hex...Great post, Pete!
Thanks for posting the "Hexed" paintings. I definitely painted the shot looking down the side of the hotel, looking down at the street with the broken sign in the foreground. I talked it over with Ken Marshall a few months back, and I think the only painting that's still a mystery is the full shot of the hotel exterior seen from street level, with the upper floors painted in. It isn't mine, and Ken can't remember who painted it. Maybe this blog entry will help unearth the mystery artist so they can take credit for it. It's a nice shot.

About that famous painted backing from "Earthquake", I recently discovered something extraordinary about it. One night, I was up late, so I decided to compare the photo you have here with a photo I have of the finished painting, and I started to notice some differences between them, and the longer I looked, the more differences I found.
I came to the conclusion that somebody decided that the original version, while beautifully painted, wasn't from a high enough vantage point. I can just imagine someone from the production coming in and looking it over, and dropping this little bomb- "Nice work. But can you make the view a little higher? Ten or fifteen stories should do it. Thanks!"

So, that gorgeous, hugely ambitious painting, had to be painted essentially......twice.Rick Rischehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04099343670647861471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-72003792490091509852016-11-12T09:40:57.702+13:002016-11-12T09:40:57.702+13:00Incidentally, Karen L.
