Worthy of the Academy Award thus given to Gillespie and Newcombe. I'd love to have seen miniature specialist Donald Jahraus be rewarded too. Apologies.
Yes, just imagine the difficulties of communication between the two most distant places on the planet - England and New Zealand - back in the 19th century or earlier. Something like 6 months by sea, and what a hellish bloody journey it was too. A letter with reply was usually a one year's wait !!!! I just watched this film for the first time on Turner Movies, and loved the special effects. I am a novice, and could tell right away that the special effects were spectacular. The tidal wave blew my socks off. I thought that they must have somehow filmed an actual flooding scene, then edited it into the final film. I know nothing of special effects, but my curiosity about that scene brought me to your wonderful site. Love this and will continue learning more about some of my fav films. The movie had overtones of Wuthering Heights. Shades of Heathcliff and Cathy, only with a happy ending and without the passion. I am from Florida, USA. Your country is fascinating. At 10 years old, I thought he was the ultimate gorgeous hero. But now when I watch it, William doesn't look too bad either. Thanks for your photos! Remember the Maori chant while they were in the stockhold? You know, the book was great, too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-15110871856179810152013-02-20T21:04:53.646+13:002013-02-20T21:04:53.646+13:00Thanks for that info, it's appreciated. It was a 20th Century Fox back lot until the 1980s I think, though everybody rented space to other studios if it was needed. MASH was shot on this lot, parts of Butch Cassidy, Towering Inferno, The Sand Pebbles and even exteriors of Mr Blanding's Dream House is still standing in what is now a state park, open to the public.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-44306176946310495122012-06-10T19:46:59.759+12:002012-06-10T19:46:59.759+12:00Great look at behind the scenes magic. It's so interesting to hear about from the perspective of an actual New Zealander too! I've always felt that some of the scenes looked like a "New Zealand Land" at a Disney theme park would have (for me that's part of the fun). Interestingly, Green Dolphin Street author Elizabeth Goudge included a prologue apologizing to readers familiar with New Zealand for what would doubtless be her many inaccuracies in depicting a land which she had never visited.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-78843308980867160972012-04-07T04:35:16.073+12:002012-04-07T04:35:16.073+12:00'Tweren't "King Kong" a masterpi...'Tweren't "King Kong" a masterpiece of matte +?

SOGS,
Torhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03037704048671379868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-17174744965497388212012-03-13T13:49:38.568+13:002012-03-13T13:49:38.568+13:00Wow!
