Thanks you so much for this blog! Painting and illustrating (my particular vocation) is all about using pigment or pixels to create an illusion, hopefully without needing to get all photographic in the rendering. I love that looseness in the Whitlock style. I'll eagerly be looking forward to your next installment.

Cort SkinnerAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-10683771848255632712011-02-15T00:33:14.182+13:002011-02-15T00:33:14.182+13:00MIndblowing - I love the old B/W mattes they just ...MIndblowing - I love the old B/W mattes they just keep on giving.
And then you see Albert's Earthquake matte which is a masterpiece.

His control of detail is what makes it so great - what he leaves out as they say!

Justin AtkinsonAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-76708510317509942462011-02-12T14:33:35.220+13:002011-02-12T14:33:35.220+13:00Thank you thank you thank you - I love this stuff....Thank you thank you thank you - I love this stuff.Davelandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10720475138513029144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-21075647563559854012011-02-11T12:30:24.960+13:002011-02-11T12:30:24.960+13:00Hey Peter,

The fellow I bought my paintings from only ever photographed a few dozen mattes back years ago (I'm not sure if he's an 'enthusiast' as such) and I spoke to him just today about the blog and he said the task of recording all 2000+ just seemed too daunting at the time.
I wonder though whether Craig Barron might have images as he was brought in to evaluate the collection I think?

He had at one time access all of the MGM stills library as well to try to identify all those mattes, and I do however have quite alot of the scans from that of various matte shots from the 40's.

Just one of those sad things we have to face Steve....NZPetehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13863364769084676156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-13442244086148619672011-02-08T16:15:52.566+13:002011-02-08T16:15:52.566+13:00Are all of the MGM matte's at U of TX archived...Are all of the MGM matte's at U of TX archived as hi-res images - are they available for fans on CD if we contact them ?Stevenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7063592677187148799.post-92230802121837059052011-02-08T13:46:11.434+13:002011-02-08T13:46:11.434+13:00I know I'm preaching to the converted here, bu...I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but don't you just love those magnificent old MGM paintings.
